In the States, the marriage equality themed play ‘8’ was read by an all-star cast, and now more well-known faces have joined the Australian cast to make our local version a night to remember.
Six Feet Under and Brothers and Sisters star Rachel Griffiths and newly-out Aussie actress Magda Szubanski are the latest to confirm they’ll read the play next month.
Griffiths will be on stage for the Melbourne reading on June 8 at Her Majesty’s Theatre, while Szubanski’s set for both Melbourne and Sydney’s Town Hall on June 9.
Comedian Shane Jacobsen, TV’s Lisa McCune, former Neighbours cast member Daniel MacPherson, theatre actor Spencer McLaren and It’s Time marriage equality campaign ad star Julian Shaw.
Written by Milk movie scribe Dustin Lance Black, the play highlighting the legal battle over Proposition 8, California’s referendum which re-outlawed gay marriage back in 2008.
Funds raised by the one-night-only readings in Sydney and Melbourne will be donated to the Australian Marriage Equality campaign.
